We concluded our day of visits in France's Alsace wine region at Emile Beyer, a family-owned winery dating back to 1580. During the last 442 years, fourteen generations of the Beyer family produced sparkling wines, rosés, and a wide range of other wines from three of the four noble grape varietals of Alsace: Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer.
Our experience began in the private room off the main tasting area, where our host provided an overview of the Domaine and the family history. Throughout the experience, we tasted 12 wines representing a sample of the full range of production at Emile Beyer. After the tasting, our host escorted us to the cellar that once housed the Domaine's production facility. Due to space constraints, the family eventually moved its operations offsite.
Unfortunately, a 23-minute delay to our wine tasting despite having a pre-scheduled appointment resulted in a less than satisfactory start to the experience.
