Winery #70: Monte Zovo (Caprino Veronese, Italy)

Our final wine experience for the Northeastern Italy Wine Tour was at Monte Zovo, a multi-estate wine producer based in Caprino Veronse, an Italian commune just east of Lake Garda. Our host for the experience explained to us that production is divided among three locations: Caprino Estate responsible for the production of wines from the areas east of Lake Garda, Le Civaie Estate producing wines from Lugana that is south of the lake, and Tregnago Estate that produces wines from Valpolicella. Diversification at its finest! We learned that the Cottini family has been producing wines for four generations with its first winery established in Valpolicella and the subsequent generations expanding vineyard holdings to the other areas of Italy.

Our experience was located in the beautiful Caprino Estate, and began with a walk to the vineyards. Overlooking the vines, we learned about the production methods of the winery. Returning back to estate's patio, we had the chance to taste four wines representing the winery’s range in a private seated tasting overlooking the vineyards. Our table was very well-appointed with a linen table cloth, silverware, and a cute lamp. Included in the tasting fee was a large meat and cheese platter to pair with the wines.
